ASP bargaining update

ASP bargaining update

May 20, 2011 at 3:11 PM

The CAW was scheduled to resume bargaining with the employer on Monday May 16 and May24. Just days before the agreed upon dates ASP notified the CAW that they again wanted to cancel both the dates and further delay bargaining. This marked the third time ASP has requested that bargaining be delayed since notice to bargain was filed on February 1, 2011. The bargaining committee believe that these delays are a deliberate attempt by the employer delay collective bargaining.

This total lack of respect and consideration of the Local 2002 CAW membership by ASP is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. The CAW bargaining committee has no choice but to ask the Federal Labour Minister to intervene, and have filed for conciliation.

Federal Conciliation is a structured legal process that both parties must follow to bring collective bargaining to a conclusion. We have asked the government to appoint a conciliator to set dates to resume bargaining. We expect the process to be concluded in a respectful and reasonable manner.

We will notify the membership as soon as dates are set with the conciliator.
