Air Canada bargaining talks underway

February 25, 2011 at 8:00 PM

Air Canada bargaining commenced February 11, 2011 and the formal bargaining process has begun. Discussing non-monetary items is the first part of the negotiation process. These proposals are currently being presented, debated and will be finalized before monetary issues are addressed.

As an additional information resource in this round of bargaining, the bargaining committee has created sub-committees; experts from within the membership. This week two sub- committees were brought in to express issues to the company that are specific to their work function.

“It has been invaluable in our discussions with the company to present the point of view from the people who actually do the work,  said Leslie  Dias, Staff Representative. “Sometimes, there is a huge gap between the company’s concepts and a worker’s reality. ”

Monday, February 28, 2011 marks the expiry of the current collective agreement. As per Article 21.03 this agreement remains in force until another agreement is reached or until all of the requirements of the prevailing Federal Laws have been met and no agreement has been reached.

“Our members have been clear about what they want:  job security, wage and benefit improvements, respectful and safe workplaces and retirement with dignity.” Local 2002 President Jamie Ross commented. “After years of giving back, they deserve a fair deal.”
