Bullying doesn’t stop at the schoolyard fence

Bullying doesn’t stop at the schoolyard fence

Workplace bullying doesn’t take a day off. It doesn't discriminate and can happen to anyone, at any time. It doesn’t matter if you’re popular, good at your job, Caucasian, a worker of colour or identify as LGBT. A bully will use any difference, in any way, to justify their actions.

Harassment and bullying is never okay, and we need to take a stand daily. But for one day—Wednesday February 24, 2016—let’s make our collective voices heard loud and clear.

Unifor Local 2002 has been recognizing Pink Shirt Day since 2009 through awareness, actions and activities. Raising awareness about workplace bullying in our own workplaces shows anyone who feels targeted by a bully that they are not alone; they have our support.

Start your planning now. Talk to your co-workers and make a plan to take a stand on February 24th. It doesn’t have to be elaborate. Set up a table that brings awareness about workplace bullying and harassment; hand out information that says you will not tolerate bullying—you have your co-worker’s back—and that respect is a fact in your workplace; wear something pink; share a smile and a conversation about how you can combat bullying while sharing goodies like pink cupcakes and candies.

Show us how you did! We want to hear about the ways you and your workplace took a stand against bullying and harassment on February 24th. Send us your pictures and stories that say: this is what Unifor Local 2002 stands for, and we want to be heard!

Send your Pink Shirt Day memories to: [email protected].
