Unifor reaches agreement with Canadian North AME group

Unifor Local 2002 is pleased to announce that it has reached a tentative agreement with the Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (AME’s) at Canadian North Inc.

The following are partial highlights of the tentative agreement concluded on March 31, 2017 by Unifor Local 2002 District 227 Bargaining Committee; Richard Breton, Chris Harrison, Brendon Golder, Dwayne Samson, William Hopper, Joel Hollis, Ashley Watkins, and Phil Belanger. For official purposes, please consult the full memorandum of settlement which will be provided at the upcoming ratification meetings scheduled from April 18 to 21, 2017.

Partial Highlights:

  • Wage increases for 2017 and 2018 (agreement expires on February 1, 2019)

  • Severance language well in excess of the Canada Labour Code

  • Strong contracting out language

  • Benefit contribution/increases

  • Reduction to number of pay grids between classifications

  • Per diems, off base

  • Defined grievance/arbitration process

  • Bereavement leave

  • Enhanced vacation carry over

  • Layoff/recall rights, etc.

"Congratulations to our Canadian North Aircraft Maintenance Engineers on reaching their first tentative agreement since joining Unifor," said Unifor 2002 President Cheryl Robinson. "Our bargaining committee faced many challenges during this round of negotiations. During bargaining, additional members were brought into the bargaining unit and the committee wanted to ensure the work locations interests were represented. Their hard work and leadership is commendable."

Unifor is attempting to schedule the ratification meetings in all four locations beginning on April 18 and concluding on April 21. The timing and location of the meetings will be communicated to you as soon as they have been confirmed.
