The Executive Board wishes to announce the appointment of two new national representatives, Shane Wark representing the GTAA and Richard Laverty who will be servicing Canadian North, CLS Catering. Handlex and Servisair.

The primary responsibilities of a national representative are to lead bargaining, assist the bargaining committee in administering the collective agreement, defend workers through the arbitration process and act as a resource for the Local’s Executive Assistants.

Both representatives bring significant experience to Local 2002: Shane Wark is a former Chairperson of the Ford Essex Engine Plant in Windsor, Ontario and was has been a National Service Representative since November 2006. He has been involved with various sectors including manufacturing, auto parts, road transportation and warehouse distribution.

Richard Laverty spent ten years organizing Sterling Truck, in St. Thomas, Ontario and was elected chairperson of CAW Local 1001 after it was certified in 2002. In June 2008, he was appointed as a national representative, working from the Chatham-Kent area office, servicing predominantly manufacturing and health-care sectors. He has recently transferred to British Columbia.

"I look forward to the challenges of working with members from Local 2002 and ensuring that the long standing tradition of improving collective agreements for our workers is maintained,” commented Richard.
