Unifor ratifies first collective agreement with Cargojet, Halifax

November 16, 2015 at 11:45 AM

Yesterday, members at Cargojet Airways Ltd. ratified their first collective bargaining agreement by an impressive 93%. These members work as cargo agents and load planners at Halifax Stanfield International Airport and are now proud members of Canada’s largest private sector union – Unifor.

"We are honoured to represent this group of employees at Cargojet," said Unifor 2002 President Cheryl Robinson. "This new agreement was a real example of joint effort. Both the Unifor bargaining committee and Cargo Jet negotiating committees worked hard to attain a great first agreement."

The three-year agreement is effective immediately and expires on December 31, 2018. Some of the improvements that the Cargojet members will enjoy are: union recognition, wage increases, reducing the payscale from 10 years down to 5 years, improvements to uniform and allotment, job postings, recall, vacation scheduling, Paid Education Leave Fund and women's advocate.

We would like to thank the Bargaining Committee for their hard work, knowledge and insight as we worked through the numerous issues as we formed a first agreement.

Unifor Local 2002 represents approximately 20 cargo operation workers on the ramp and in load plan who work for Cargojet Airways Ltd. at Halifax Stanfield International Airport, Nova Scotia.
