American Eagle ratifies second collective agreement

October 3, 2011 at 3:03 PM

American Eagle, District 341, has ratified their second collective agreement by 61 per cent. Bargaining opened on July 11, 2011, and the one year agreement expired on March 17, 2011.

The CAW represents 80 members at American Eagle, who are responsible for operations and ground handling for American Airlines at Terminal 3 at Pearson International Airport in Toronto.

This round of bargaining proved very challenging for the bargaining committee. Over-competition between airport ground handling operators and company demands aimed at preserving the corporate culture creates a very precarious work environment. In spite of this, the bargaining committee diligently focused achieving contractual and quality of life improvements for the members of American Eagle.

Some contract highlights include wage increases ranging from 2.4 to 4.7 per cent annually over the course of the agreement, enhanced staff planning and assignment of work and improved harassment investigation and lead language. The term of the new agreement is three years.
