District 341 / American Eagle prepares for bargaining

March 18, 2014 at 1:57 PM

In preparation for negotiations, your District 341 bargaining committee met on January 31, 2014 to develop a comprehensive bargaining strategy and membership survey.

On February 24, 2014 the committee met to extract data from the completed surveys and establish the most important issues from the membership’s perspective.  Proposal meetings were scheduled for March 12 and were well attended, in spite of a snow storm; it is clear that the membership of American Eagle are determined to participate in their future, their contract!

From surveys, to proposal meetings and finally ratification, bargaining starts and ends with the members of Unifor; your support is critical to our ultimate success in securing a progressive contract.

The bargaining committee is reviewing the collective agreement in order to determine any additional changes needed to current language.  Input from surveys, proposal meetings and contractual information compiled by the bargaining committee will form the monetary and non-monetary proposals that will be presented to the employer in negotiations.

Expectations are high as we move into bargaining the third collective agreement for American Eagle. Please remember that although the current collective agreement expires on March 17, 2014, the agreement remains in full force until the membership ratifies a new agreement.

Although there are no bargaining dates confirmed with the company, rest assured that your union will keep you informed as the bargaining process unfolds.

Unifor represents 92 members at American Eagle who perform ramp handling services at Pearson International Airport.
