Envoy Air: Unifor files for conciliation

Envoy Air: Unifor files for conciliation

September 18, 2014 at 11:39 AM
Your Envoy Air bargaining committee last met with the company on August 20, 2014 to exchange monetary proposals. The employer asked for some time to review the outstanding issues. The next scheduled meeting was to be on September 17.

Prior to this meeting, the company requested that the union revise their monetary proposal. After careful consideration and consultation, the union responded that a fair and reasonable proposal had already been submitted.

In fact, a counter proposal would be counterproductive to this bargaining process and certainly unfair to our members at Envoy, many of whom work two jobs to make ends meet. In addition, the impact of the mega merger between American Airlines and U.S. Airways on the Toronto station is yet to be determined and has cast clouds of uncertainty over these workers.

On September 15, 2014 the union filed for conciliation with the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS). The FMCS will appoint a conciliator who then has 60 days to assist both parties to explore potential solutions an attempt to bring about a negotiated settlement. This is then followed by a 21 day processing or "cooling off” period.

Until these conditions are met, the terms and conditions of the collective agreement (which expired on March 17, 2014) remains in effect.

As we go through this process, the union will continue to keep our membership informed of any further developments.
