Envoy Air Update: Unifor Local 2002 Files for Conciliation

October 3, 2017 at 1:20 PM
As communicated to the members of Envoy Air in a previous bulletin dated September 12, 2017, to Mr. Peter Simpson, Director General Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS).

On September 22, 2017, we were formally advised that Ms. Kim Beemer, has been officially appointed to Conciliation Officer/Mediator to this file.  Ms. Beemer is the same officer that FMCS appointed to this file three years ago. Since progress has been slow to date with bargaining, Unifor Local 2002 welcomes the change of dynamics at the bargaining table in hopes of finding some common ground towards reaching a fair deal.

Conciliation Process:

Under the conciliation process, the timelines outlined in the Canada Labour Code take effect upon the appointment of the Conciliator which took effect on September 22,2017.

“Pursuant to section 73 (2) (b) of the Code, the officer’s mandate is subject to extension by the Minister up to 60 days from the date of the appointment. Any extension beyond 60 days (November 21,2017) can be made only by mutual consent of the parties”.

The union had previously planned to meet with the company on October 11 and 12, however, the Conciliator was not available on the above dates due to a previous commitment.  Unifor Local 2002 is currently waiting for a response from the Conciliator, so that we can mutually agree on dates, which at this point in time, may not occur until November.

We thank you for your continued support as your bargaining committee enters into the conciliation process to bargain a collective agreement that will benefit all members.  Please ensure that you have subscribed to Unifor 2002’s e-news service at www.unifor2002.org.
