Your collective agreement defines the rules that you work under each day. Take a moment and think about the conditions under which you trade your labour
in order to make a living. What progressive changes do you feel could improve
these conditions and your job security?
CAW members are more involved in bargaining than in anything else the union
does. Their participation and the democratic structure of bargaining are crucial
to our progress.
The GTAA District 333 members’ current collective bargaining agreement (CBA)
expires July 31, 2013 but preparations for the next set of negotiations have
already begun.
You are an important part of the process. Soon you will receive the opportunity
to make your voice heard and prioritize your proposals. This will be achieved by
a two-step process, beginning with a survey distributed on January 25 and
followed by proposal meetings held in on February 21, 25 and the 28th.
Your participation in both events will be the key to a successful contract.
SURVEYS
Surveys are an important measure of the membership’s needs and concerns. Your
bargaining committee wants to know what issues affect you.
We are all busy. And while it may be tempting to just toss the bargaining survey
aside, please take the time to consider what you want out of your next contract.
The committee has developed a comprehensive survey that is relevant to your
contractual needs.
For your convenience, you can fill out the attached survey and return it to
any bargaining committee member. You can also access and submit the survey electronically.
After survey results are tabulated, proposal meetings will be held. This will
also be an opportunity for members to hear the bargaining committee and the CAW
National’s perspective as to contractual priorities.
The membership can present their proposals, expressing support for certain
demands and then vote on the debated proposals.
By attending the proposal meetings, you will ensure that your voice is heard and
that the committee’s proposals reflect your priorities.
On March 25, 2013 proposals are exchanged with the company and future dates for
bargaining are agreed to.
PEOPLE POWER!
CAW bargaining starts and ends with our members; they raise the concerns and
collective issues which become the proposals in negotiations.
Your bargaining committee leads the bargaining process, utilizing CAW National
resources and calling upon different experts (legal, economic and pension) as
required. But it is the support and solidarity of our membership that is the key
to making progress. Our bargaining power depends on your active support.
Ultimately, the acceptance or rejection of the collective agreement rests with
the members.
