GTAA Bargaining Committee continues to make progress

June 7, 2013 at 3:30 PM

It has been six months since the GTAA bargaining committee first met and took the oath of office, pledging to represent the best interests of the membership in negotiations.

That oath remains at the core of this round of bargaining.

Since bargaining commenced on April 29, the committee has continued to make steady progress in their proposals with the company.

Over the last week and a half the union has been entrenched in negotiations with the employer. The sessions which were held over four nonconsecutive days were very productive.

To date, approximately 75 per cent of non-monetary items have tentatively been agreed to. In order to continue the positive momentum, several items have been deferred.

Sub-committees continue to meet outside of these main table discussions and have progressed to the point that the core ideas and framework have now been brought to the main table. These concepts will now be massaged by the broader bargaining committee.

Further bargaining dates have been scheduled for June 25, 26 and 28, 2013. Additional dates have been secured for July 3, 4, and 5, 2013.

The current collective agreement expires July 31, 2013.
