GTAA: Committee prepares for negotiations

GTAA: Committee prepares for negotiations

March 8, 2013 at 3:30 PM

The GTAA District 333 bargaining committee has faced an eventful three weeks, gauging the membership in order to establish initial proposals to bring forth to the company.

The committee compiled information from comprehensive surveys submitted by members. The results were then presented at several proposal meetings enabling the membership to voice any additional requirements they would like addressed by their committee. Meetings were well attended and valuable additional feedback was obtained. Members expressed their confidence that the bargaining committee has captured the main issues and are heading in the right direction.

During the week of March 4th the committee went through the meticulous task of reading each and every word of the collective agreement to strengthen language identified by the membership and the committee. This process ensures a strong collective agreement that benefits and reflects members’ contractual requirements for the duration of the agreement.

In addition, the committee will utilize the expertise and resources of the CAW National in many areas, including pensions and benefits to ensure nothing is overlooked. There will be further reviews prior to exchanging proposals with the employer on March 25, 2013.

The committee will reconvene throughout the month of April to review the employer’s proposals, identifying common ground as well as differences.

On April 29, 2013 both parties will commence negotiations. Throughout the process, the bargaining committee will continue to represent the membership’s best interests and will settle for nothing less than a ‘fair deal’.
