TBI: Greater Toronto Airport Authority (GTAA) Transition

March 6, 2006 at 12:00 AM

On Monday, February 27th, the Greater Toronto Airport Authority (GTAA) held an information session for all TBI employees. The meeting was chaired by Frank Walsh, TBI’s General Manager, and was intended to clarify any uncertainties pertaining to the changeover of Management.

John Kaldeway, President and CEO of the GTAA addressed the approximately 90 TBI employees made up of both management and unionized workers. Mr. Kaldeway began by introducing several of the management team and welcomed those attending the session to the “GTTA family.”

It was noted early in Mr. Kaldeway’s address to the employees that GTAA intends to honor the collective agreements of both the CAW and PSAC in their entirety. For all intents and purposes, this means that the new employer (GTAA) will not be altering content in the existing agreements. Mr. Kaldeway also noted that the GTAA would be fair and honest with the unions in future negotiations.

As many of you have seen by now, our new employer has hand-delivered welcome-letters to the most TBI/GTAA employees. The union is aware of the content contained in this letter and believes this to be an encouraging first step. We look forward to many more meetings with the GTAA and believe it will be a positive relationship.

In solidarity
