Jazz CSA/ACS to merge classifications

Jazz CSA/ACS to merge classifications

March 6, 2014 at 3:15 PM

Bargaining committee representatives met with the company on January 24, 2014 for further discussions regarding cabin services work in airports in Victoria, British Columbia (YYJ) and London, Ontario (YXU).

Arbitrator Tom Hodges’ July 17, 2013 award between the union and the company states that the company can contract out all below the wing work (with the exception of tow crew at Vancouver, Calgary and Toronto airports). The company elected to keep the ramp function at stations in Victoria and London and the driver/commissary in Vancouver and Quebec.

As per Article 4.04.02 in the current collective agreement, the company and the union can merge classifications.

Through ongoing negotiations, your bargaining committee was able to secure the cabin services work in YYJ and YXU by merging the ramp and grooming classifications. This has the potential of saving approximately seven positions.

Employees in cabins services in YYJ/YXU will have the options of:
1. Merge to ramp
2. Take the layoff
3. Take the Voluntary Separation Package

Because this agreement was made after the original letters went out, employees in the "below the wing” division will be offered the opportunity to reconsider their decisions and resubmit their response to layoff if they had originally said they wanted to bump ramp in YYJ/YXU. All employees will be cross- trained in order to perform both the ramp and grooming functions.
