During the April 2007 CAW National Council at Port Elgin Leslie Dias was elected to the CAW National Executive Board (NEB). The NEB is the highest governing body of the National Union between constitutional conventions and directs the affairs of the entire CAW.  The NEB is in part comprised of presidents of CAW Locals who represent major sectors of the Canadian economy.

“I am pleased to be part of the NEB and my election is a clear recognition of the importance of the airline sector to the National Union. I will keep our issues front and centre at the NEB and  will remain focused on finding creative ways to educate and mobilize our members for social and political change” said Leslie Dias.  “Middle class Canadians are feeling the financial pressure of twenty years of deregulation and free trade agreements.   At the same time we watch corporate executives and investors accumulate massive wealth.”

Leslie noted the present situation is the direct result of government policies dating back to Brian Mulroney’s Conservative government. When Canadians start to elect governments that change free trade deals to fair trade agreements we will see a fairer sharing of Canada’s wealth.

Leslie’s term on the NEB begins immediately and will last until the next CAW Constitutional Convention in 2008.
