Your bargaining committee was in negotiations with
the company this week working towards reaching a new tentative agreement that
would protect scope work and current work rules while providing gains. Meetings
were held in Toronto with Mediator Tom Hodges assisting the parties in an
attempt to reach a deal. The mediator was not empowered to arbitrate a
resolution, thus the process was non-binding.
Unifor is disappointed that the company is
unwilling to move off their concessions making a deal unattainable, even with
the assistance of a mediator.
The Union is still striving to protect and retain
work and the status quo while achieving gains and feels that a deal can still be
reached.
The current contract expired on September 30, 2015.
During the bargaining process the existing contract will remain in force until
the parties negotiate a new collective agreement.
There will be additional meetings in the future but
Unifor does not have firm dates to communicate with you at this time.
