Your Jazz Technical Services bargaining committee
reconvened in Toronto beginning Monday with hopes of reaching a tentative
agreement with Jazz Aviation. Federal Mediator Tom Hodges was once again present
during discussions to assist the parties in reaching a deal. Mr. Hodges was not
empowered to arbitrate a resolution, thus the process was non-binding.
With much of the non-monetary items tentatively
agreed to by both the company and the union, monetary items were still to be
finalized. However, the bargaining committee is not satisfied with the current
monetary offer tabled by the company and how Jazz plans to conduct future
operations for the duration of the new contract.
The bargaining committee is concerned about Jazz’s
vision of its’ Line Maintenance and Heavy Maintenance operations. The union
expects that the company provide further clarity on how it intends to maintain
operations now and in the future. We are fighting for the members best interests
and will not support a race to the bottom.
As a tentative agreement was not reached during
this round of talks, further discussions will be required between the two
parties.
The current contract expired on September 30, 2015.
However, during the bargaining process the existing contract will remain in
force until the parties negotiate a new collective agreement. The Union is
striving to protect and retain work while achieving gains and hopes that a deal
can be reached.
