Staffing Update from Webb Airport Services

Staffing Update from Webb Airport Services

April 18, 2017 at 11:30 AM

On Wednesday April 12, management and representatives from all levels of the union met to discuss the new initiatives Webb Airport Services was about to embark on. The primary issue on the agenda was the Company’s new vision concerning their announcement to expand the levels of service they currently provide to the Greater Toronto Airport Authority (GTAA).

Webb will be implementing changes in the way they operate and maintain the baggage handling system at Toronto Pearson International Airport’s Terminal 1. The expansion will bring about new job opportunities, which will increase the current classifications of Baggage Handling Technicians (BHT), Baggage System Operators (BSO) and will introduce the new classification of Junior Technician (JT). These changes will ultimately bring an increase to the number of non-unionized personnel.

The BHT’s and JT’s will be scheduled to work a steady midnight shift while the new BSO’s will be scheduled on a rotating 6X3 shift. A snapshot of the current 5/5 shifts will take place and the Company will grandfather the current number of rotational shifts to ensure they maintain the same number of 5/5 shifts in the future.

Unifor is pleased that Webb Airport Services is in a position to bring about positive change for their client. These changes will result in an improved opportunity for our workers at Webb; an opportunity they have not seen for quite some time.

The Company is placing employment ads on the Indeed job website at:
