We are introducing a new monthly feature where we are focusing the spotlight on units within Unifor Local 2002. This will give you an opportunity to peek behind the scenes to learn about who we are and what we do. Did you know? We represent 26 different Companies with 36 Collective Agreements. Our Local proudly represents over 11,000 members from coast to coast to coast.

For the month of January, we are featuring the following three units:

AIRPORT TERMINAL SERVICES (ATS)

Airport Terminal Services (ATS) is an internationally recognized ground service provider, their network spans approximately 40 cities throughout the United States and Canada.

Unifor represents ATS members in Toronto, Calgary, and most recently welcomed our newest members ATS Moncton, District 540. Members at ATS handle Passenger Services, Ramp, and Maintenance services as contract workers for various airlines. These airlines include United Airlines, Icelandair, Aero Mexico, and WestJet.

Ramp members provide; baggage handling, aircraft marshaling, and lavatory services. Cargo members perform loading and unloading of cargo from aircraft, processing outbound cargo shipments, and other warehouse related duties. Members in Calgary perform mechanical servicing on various ground equipment for WestJet.

NASITTUQ

Nasittuq provides site-support services, program management, and administrative support to the Canadian Government for the maintenance and operation of Canadian Forces Station (CFS) Alert.

CFS Alert is a military station located in Nunavut on the north-eastern tip of Ellesmere Island. The station is approximately 817 kilometers from the North Pole. We represent members who work in the northernmost permanently inhabited place on earth.

Members supply a complete range of support services to Canada’s Department of National Defence including facilities maintenance, airfield operations, food services, transport, logistical and administrative support. Members work in an extremely isolated environment, for much of the year, members work in perpetual darkness, sharing their patch of land with polar bears, muskox, arctic fox, and wolves.

Members work an 8/8 shift rotation (8 weeks in the workplace and 8 weeks out), they are transported by Canadian military plane from CFB Trenton to Thule, Greenland, and then onward to Alert.

PROPAIR

Propair provides transshipment services of supplies and passengers from the Rouyn Noranda Regional Airport. Propair Inc. is a leader in charter transportation for passengers, air cargo, and is the primary provider of air taxi and aeromedical evacuations in parts of Quebec, Ontario, and areas of northeast United States.

Propair’s fleet consists of Gulfstream and Beechcraft aircraft which offers support services (fuel, maintenance, and cargo handling) at Rouyn-Noranda and Montreal-Pierre Elliot Trudeau International Airport. We proudly represent members, including nurses, pilots, maintenance technicians and ground personnel serving Northern Quebec.
