Happy New Year Sisters and Brothers! As we close out this past year and shift our focus on the new year, it seems like an appropriate time to reflect on the past year.
In 2017, members elected a new executive board, workplace, health and safety representatives. Local 2002 welcomed new members from Flair Air Kelowna, BC, Air Terminal Services (ATS), Moncton, NB.
Delegates from across the country attended our convention in May, at the Family Education Center, in Port Elgin, ON. Delegates debated and voted on bylaw changes (the rules that govern the union), elected members to various committees, (Local Elections Committee, Board of Trustees, By-laws and Constitution Committee).
In 2018, we will be at the bargaining table with Committees from; Aeroplan, ATS Toronto, and Moncton, Air Georgian, Cargo, Flair Air, Hilton Saint John, Jazz Crew Schedulers, Porter Airlines, Propair and Swissport (Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, and Quebec City).
In early 2018, training will continue for district representatives, health and safety representatives from across the country. Representatives will then bring their newly acquired knowledge from these training sessions into their workplaces and apply it on behalf of the members.
On behalf of the Local 2002 Executive Board and myself, I look forward to building a stronger union for all of our members.
