Notice regarding Teamsters’ strike action

Notice regarding Teamsters’ strike action

July 28, 2017 at 9:00 AM

Earlier this week, Teamsters Local 419 who represent the baggage and cargo handlers at Swissport in Toronto, filed a 72-hour strike notice with their employer. These members legally went on strike as of 9:30 pm last night.

Unifor 2002 is in full support of these workers in their struggle to reach a new agreement with their Employer. Negotiations between Swissport and Teamsters have been trying, even after the parties worked through the weekend in hopes of reaching a fair and equitable deal. Talks finally derailed when Teamsters were presented a final offer from the company that did not meet the needs of their membership.

We encourage you to show your support to the workers engaged in this dispute by walking the picket line that may be established at a location near your workplace, or on the way to your workplace before you begin your shift. At the same time we underline that it is imperative that you attend work and arrive on time and return from lunch and break periods on time.

We will be in contact with you to communicate any calls for support we receive from the Teamsters, and will keep you informed of any developments in the strike action as they unfold.

In Solidarity,

Euila Leonard
President
Unifor 2002
