Unifor 2002: Progress Through Solidarity

February 6, 2017 at 4:00 PM

Local 2002's 6th Triennial Convention will be held May 15-18, 2017 at the Unifor Education Centre in Port Elgin, Ontario. Delegates are chosen in accordance with the Local 2002 bylaws and are based on the number of active members in each district as of December 31, 2016.

As per the bylaws of Local 2002:
"The primary function of the convention is to receive a detailed accounting from the Executive Board of the conduct of the business and affairs of the Local Union for the preceding three years."

Convention delegates, who are "the supreme governing body" of our local, will come together to discuss, debate and vote on local bylaw resolutions submitted from districts, the Executive Board, Trustees and local committees.

The Bylaws are the rules and regulations that govern our local union. The Bylaws can be found on the local website at: www.unifor2002.org/Services-Departments/Bylaws.

In accordance with the bylaws, Elections will take place at convention.
The following positions will be elected by the convention delegates:

  • Local Election Committee

  • Board of Trustee Chair

  • Board of Trustees

  • Constitution and Bylaws Committee

  • Unifor Regional Councils
      -› BC Regional Council Delegates
      -› Prairie Council Delegates
      -› Ontario Regional Council Delegates
      -› Quebec Council Delegates
      -› Atlantic Regional Council Delegates

  • Unifor National Canadian Council

  • Unifor National Convention

The Unifor National Regional Councils, Canadian Council and Convention delegate entitlements are determined by the Unifor National Constitution.

Unifor Local 2002 strongly encourages members in good standing interested in getting involved to submit a nomination. Writs of election, including descriptions of the roles and responsibilities of the committees and delegates, will be posted in the workplace and on the local website (www.unifor2002.org). Please note that nominations will also be accepted from the convention floor.

The union is shaped by our relationships, by how we treat and care for each other. Our commitment to solidarity speaks to the significance of the language of “union sister” and “union brother”. It is evident in the day-to-day bonds of fellowship and friendship, it is found in the expressions of respect and mutual support, and it is witnessed in the acts of cooperation and interdependence, and by our commitment to anti-harassment. Solidarity is how we pay tribute to the fact that an injury to one is an injury to all. It is how we acknowledge that what we want for ourselves, we want for others. And it is how we demonstrate our resolve and determination to make it so.

This is how we achieve progress through solidarity.

For more information on conventions, please review Article 6: Section 1 in your Local 2002 bylaws or contact your regional Vice-President.

In solidarity,

Cheryl Robinson
Unifor Local 2002 President
