“Quebec Council is the heart of our union and our best political tool,” - Benoit Lapointe

Benoit Lapointe has been elected ‎for his second term as chair of Unifor Quebec Council. The council, a democratic force for union activism and solidarity was held in Montreal from November 25 to 27, 2016.

Benoit is an impassioned and tireless advocate for workers and social justice.  His leadership in the workplace and for all workers in the eastern region is inspirational.

“I am honoured to be supported by Quebec delegates as we continue our work to protect social contracts and collective agreements throughout the province,” says Benoit. “More than ever, we need to mobilize our members and our families to take action and not let the right wing agenda take over our lives.”

Two other members from Montreal’s District 400 have stepped forward to represent workers on Quebec Council: district chairperson Manon Camiré was re-elected to the Workers with Disabilities Committee and vice chairperson Kevork Vahedjian was elected to serve on the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Workers Committee.

“I’m so very proud of Benoit, Kevork and Manon,” reflects Local 2002 President Cheryl Robinson. “And I’m grateful to all of our sisters and brothers who volunteer so much of their personal time and energy as they continue in the fight for a more just world.”
