Sixty pilots from PASCAN Aviation, Quebec's largest independent airline which
operates out of Saint-Hubert Airport on Montreal’s south shore have joined
Unifor, Canada’s largest private sector union.
Many of the group attended their first membership meeting in Longueuil,
Quebec on October 17, 2014 with eastern region vice president Sandra Cormier,
national staff representative Marcel Rondeau and organiser Francois Beaudoin.
They learned about their union, discussed workplace issues and elected their
bargaining committee: Marc-Andre Bouchard, Stephan Fighiera and Maxime Ruel.
"We are so happy to have this group join our local," said Cheryl Robinson,
president of Local 2002 and the Unifor Aviation Industry Council. "Our members
make us strong and Unifor offers them many fantastic opportunities to be engaged
and involved in their union and communities."
Unifor's nationwide aviation sector is broadly represented and continues to
grow with nearly 14,000 members including pilots, air traffic controllers,
aircraft mechanics, airport authority workers, air paramedics, ground handling
and customer service workers.
Local 2002 executive assistant Josée Genois looks forward to working with the
membership and bargaining committee from PASCAN as they prepare to bargain their
first collective agreement.
