Perimeter Aviation, District 299: Bargaining update

May 27, 2016 at 4:30 PM

After voting to merge with Unifor in December 2015, the Central Pilot’s Association, now known as Perimeter Aviation District 299, went through a lengthy certification process to become part of Unifor Local 2002 in May 2016. Recently, the Perimeter Flight Attendants also voted to join Unifor and received their certification.

Your Unifor 2002 bargaining committee met with the EIC lawyer and Perimeter management in April 2016 to begin the process of bargaining a collective agreement. We agreed to meet May 25th and 26th to exchange the non-monetary proposals and housekeeping items.

“The Unifor bargaining style, though somewhat unique, has worked for many decades, with thousands of employers and for more than 310,000 members,” said Cheryl Robinson, President of Unifor 2002. “Our model blends the experience of our Unifor Representatives with the detailed knowledge of the elected bargaining committee. We believe strongly in the value of members electing their peers and speaking to them directly because those are the faces you see day to day, and you have established workplace respect for one another.”

We are scheduled to meet with the employer again on August 11th and 12th, when we hope to finalize the non-monetary issues and exchange our monetary proposals. Once Unifor and the employer come to an agreement on all of the proposals, these will become the basis for a tentative agreement. We will present all the changes to the collective agreement at a ratification meeting. Members who attend these important ratification meetings will vote on the tentative collective agreement following the presentation.

Throughout the bargaining process, we ask the membership to respect the bargaining committee and understand that they are dealing with a confidential process until it is worked out and a tentative agreement is reached. We appreciate your patience and ongoing support as we work towards an agreement that benefits all of our members at Unifor 2002 District 299.

We will continue to keep you informed with any further developments. Please ensure that you have subscribed to Unifor 2002’s e-news service at www.unifor2002.org.

In solidarity,

Your Unifor 2002 bargaining committee,

Cheryl Robinson, Unifor Local 2002 President
