We are pleased to announce the results of the Servisair/Swissport representational vote for the workers at Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport in Montreal. Workers have clearly chosen Unifor as their union.
The Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) conducted this vote as a result of the acquisition of Servisair by Swissport in 2013. Workers were asked to choose which union – Unifor or the IAMAW – would best represent them. Results of the vote are as follows:
Unifor: 224
IAMAW: 19
Almost two years ago, our members were also dealing with uncertainty. It was then that Servisair purchased Handlex, which triggered a representational vote between Unifor (then CAW) and the IAM. When the vote was concluded, workers had chosen the CAW (now Unifor).
"This vote sends a clear message that the workers at Swissport choose Unifor as their union," said Unifor local 2002 president Cheryl Robinson. "The committee on the ground has worked incredibly hard to make this victory possible. The membership has made the right choice. Unifor is the largest private sector union in Canada and is proud to represent more than 15,000 members of the aviation sector. The ground handling portion of this sector are dealing with a number of challenges; contract flipping and the highly competitive nature of the business to name a few. It is our goal to meet our members’ needs and to stand with our sisters and brothers. Together we will be stronger."
