Worldwide Flight Services- Unifor Local 2002 Files for Conciliation

December 13, 2018 at 2:07 PM
On December 13, 2018, Unifor Local 2002 filed for conciliation to the Federal Labour Board for its members at Worldwide Flight Services in Toronto and Montreal.

Our members at Worldwide have made it clear that they want their collective agreement to reflect fairness and respect in the workplace. In order to fast-track the process of negotiations, Unifor 2002 has filed a Notice of Dispute with the Canadian Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) for our members.

What is Conciliation? How does it Work?

  • Unifor files a Notice of Dispute to the Federal Minister of Labour
  • Minister will appoint a Federal Conciliation Officer within 15 days
  • The Conciliator will meet with Union and Employer over a 60-day period to facilitate negotiations
  • The parties may agree to extend the conciliation period if negotiations are progressing
  • At the end of this period, the parties enter a 21 day "cooling off period”
  • Conciliator files report to the Federal Minister of Labour
  • While in conciliation, the Company may not lock out employees and the Union may not go on strike
  • Strike action is only ever taken as a last resort and after conditions (such as a strike vote and 72 hours advance notice) are met.

In filing for conciliation, this does not alter in any way, our attention and determination to bargain a fair agreement for our members.  We are looking forward to resuming negotiation talks with the assistance of the conciliator. We will ensure to keep you informed when bargaining reconvenes.
