ASP working conditions remains status quo

ASP working conditions remains status quo

September 24, 2012 at 10:00 AM

On September 21, Chief Executive Officer, Dean Lovric contacted the CAW to notify >view letter< us in writing, that they were stopping the announced changes to seniority and the proposed changes to shift bids. The working conditions will remain status quo while we bargain a new collective agreement with ASP.

The notification by Mr. Lovric follows two complaints that were filed with the Canadian Industrial Labour Relations Board by the CAW, one for bad faith bargaining and the second for dealing directly with the employees and bypassing the union. The CAW had no choice but to file the two complaints with the CIRB, following the announcement by ASP Management that they were preparing to change our member’s seniority and introduce a new shift bid without the CAW’s agreement.

The CAW served Notice to Bargain on September 5, 2012 which legally freezes the working conditions of the workplace. Any changes to the working conditions without the consent or agreement of the union are illegal. The current collective agreement expires December 31, 2012.

Mr. Lovric agreed with the CAW that to continue with the changes to seniority and shift bids was not in the best interest of our members and ASP. He has committed to personally get involved with collective bargaining and will lead the bargaining team for the company.

The CAW has agreed to withdraw the two complaints, as this notification is in writing by Mr. Lovric appears to be a genuine attempt by ASP to recognize the CAW on behalf of the security guards at Pearson Airport.

The CAW would like thank the membership who has stood by their union during this difficult time. The many grievances and emails to management helped serve notice that you were in support of the CAW, and has sent a clear message to ASP.

CAW will be setting dates with ASP to meet, with the goal of reaching a new collective agreement on your behalf. We will provide further updated following these meetings.
