In the newly achieved Unifor-Air Canada collective agreement, one of the many gains your Unifor bargaining committee attained was a pension buy-back window for members who meet the eligibility criteria.
On Friday July 17, 2020 Air Canada distributed a notice (attached to this communication) via Air Canada company email that addresses details of the pension buy-back program. Unifor is re-distributing this bulletin to help our members be aware of the opportunity and how to apply.
All Air Canada members – active or on layoff status – are eligible to apply for the buyback program. Air Canada will provide members with the total amount to buy back and the applicable period. If you wish to proceed, you have the option of paying the total by cheque or opt for biweekly deductions once you return to the workplace.
If you have questions or require clarification, please contact your regional Air Canada bargaining representative. Our aim is that you have all of the information required to make an informed decision.

Special Pension Buyback Opportunity
Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to inform you that as part the Collective Agreement with UNIFOR, a special pension buyback opportunity is now available. Please see details below.
I – ELIGIBILITY
All Customer Sales and Service Agent’s covered by the Air Canada/Unifor Collective Agreement.
II - THE PROGRAM
A. Availability
Employees will be given a special opportunity to buy back eligible time periods of approved leaves of absence that they chose not to buy back upon their return to work. Employees will be eligible to buy back leave periods which began within fifteen (15) years prior to the effective date of the collective agreement, i.e. prior to March 15, 2020.
B. APPLICATION PROCEDURE AND CLOSING DATE
Employees wishing to make an application for pension buyback should contact HR Connex Pension (Alight) via the Air Canada Employee Care Team number 1-833-847-3675 no later than 17:00 EST on October 19, 2020.
