Air Canada leadership reconvenes in Toronto for next steps in bargaining

On Wednesday, February 5, 2020, Unifor’s Air Canada leadership met in Toronto to collectively provide the bargaining committee with feedback from their own locations concerning the Tentative Agreement reached with the Company. As previously communicated, Unifor and Air Canada reached an agreement on January 15 for the 5,600 members who work at Air Canada Call Centres and Airports, Customer Journey Management and Customer Relations.

"Following our January 22nd leadership meeting in Toronto, it was clear that the Tentative Agreement in its current form did not meet our expectations," said Euila Leonard, President of Unifor Local 2002. "Today, we received a clear message on the expectations of our bargaining unit."

Jerry Dias, Unifor's National President, along with Scott Doherty, Executive Assistant to the National President fielded questions and provided constructive feedback to the 100 representatives that comprise the Air Canada Union leadership. Patrick Rettig, National Representative – Pension and Benefits Department and Kaylie Tiessen, National Representative – Research Department provided monetary and financial data on industry standards and pension-related issues.

Your Unifor Bargaining Committee will be convening over the next 24 hours and determining next steps. At that time, we will be communicating with the membership. Until such time, we realize that social media and private electronic chat rooms are abuzz with misinformation and negative chatter. We ask that everyone be patient and respectful to your Unifor leadership, bargaining team and your Air Canada co-workers. Further information will be communicated as soon as we know more. In the interim, if you have questions, please contact your District Chairperson or regional bargaining committee representative.

Please ensure that you have subscribed to Unifor 2002's e-news service at unifor2002.org.
