Canadian North CSA’s – Negotiating for a new Collective Agreement

Canadian North CSA’s – Negotiating for a new Collective Agreement

June 3, 2019 at 3:21 PM
As you aware, your current collective agreement expired on December 31st, 2018. The Company and the Union had agreed to delay the negotiating process due to the upcoming merger with First Air. At this time, many members had been asking why we were not negotiating a new agreement.

The simple reason was that a new collective agreement would need to be negotiated between the merged airlines for all of the Customer Sales Agents as they are both represented by Unifor Local 2002.

At the last UMHQ meeting held with Canadian North, we determined and agreed that the negotiating process must begin as the decision for a new merged airline could be several months away.

We have agreed to meet with the Company on June 25 to 27, 2019, in Edmonton. In the next few days, you will be receiving notification advising how to complete the online Bargaining Survey that will help determine the priorities for your next collective agreement. In addition, to the survey, we will be scheduling conference calls to discuss proposals that will be written and presented to the Company when we open negotiations.

However, if a decision should be made by the Federal Minister of Transportation to approve this merger negotiations will be further delayed. We will keep you informed as the developments unfold.
