QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS BULLETIN

Following the First Air/Canadian North merger announcement on Friday, July 6th, 2018, Unifor Local 2002 has compiled a Question and Answer document pertaining to the merger process. Please do not hesitate to contact your District Chairperson if you require further information.

What is the process going forward in regards to union representation?

There is no change in regards to your union representation. Unifor Local 2002 will continue to represent both sets of members under their respective collective agreements until the Canadian Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) makes a decision.

How does this merger affect my union seniority?

Once all approvals have been obtained by the Competition Bureau and the CIRB, Unifor Local 2002 will merge the two seniority lists of our First Air and Canadian North membership. Seniority will be determined by the date of joining Unifor Local 2002.

What happens to the two collective agreements?

The Unifor legal department will submit an application to the CIRB for one certificate to represent both sets of members. In the application, Unifor would seek that one collective agreement is negotiated for all of its members. In mean time, both collective agreements continue to apply respectively to both memberships.

When will the next update be provided?

Rest assured, your Local will be providing much more information to you as this merger process unfolds. Understandably, there are uncertainties surrounding the proposed merger that could be confusing to our members, however, it is important to that we remain united and supportive of each other during this process. In the interim, it is "business as usual".

In solidarity,
