EVAS Air Pilots Preparing for a Legal Strike: at 0001 hours (local time) on June 7, 2019

May 30, 2019 at 2:15 PM
As communicated in our last bulletin, the EVAS membership overwhelmingly said NO to the “Company’s Revised Final Offer”, 95 per cent voted to reject the “Revised Final Offer”.

On May 28, 2019, the Bargaining Committee met to discuss and table a list of issues that needed to be addressed by the Company, if we were to ratify a new agreement.  The list of issues compiled is based on the feedback provided by the membership at the Ratification meetings held on May 23 to 24, 2019.

Company proposes “Last Offer” on May 29, 2019
On May 29th, 2019, in Gander, NL, the Bargaining Committee and the Company met with the Federal Conciliator, with the objective to reach a fair deal.

The Committee presented the Company with the list of issues that needed to be discussed, the Company flatly refused to spend any additional money to fix the issues raised by the Bargaining Committee. As we continued to negotiate with the Company, late afternoon on May 29, 2019, the Company tabled a “last offer”. This “last offer” remained mostly unchanged from the previous offer that had been rejected by the members. The Company had no desire to address the issues affecting the members, including scheduling and quality of life issues.

When the Company presented the “last offer”,  EVAS informed the Bargaining Committee that they needed their full support and a response within 30 minutes or else they would rescind the offer. They further advised, if the Committee did not respond within the advised time-frame the Company threatened to contact Air Canada to advise them that EVAS Air would have to restructure their operations and focus solely on the Cargo and Medevac businesses.

As you may be aware, EVAS has communicated their position on the offer, however, they told the Committee the offer was off the table.

This offer, which the Company called their “last offer” was not only unacceptable, it did not address the main concerns of the membership.

Today (May 30, 2019) the Committee remains available to meet with the Employer if it is willing to do so. The Committee has begun the work to prepare for a legal strike.  Members at EVAS  will be in a legal strike position as of 0001 hours (local time) on June 7, 2019.

We will continue to work vigorously on your behalf and will keep you informed of any further developments.
