On April 5, 2019,  negotiations officially opened between Unifor Local 2002 and The GTAA in Toronto. Present at this opening round of negotiations was Euila Leonard, President of Unifor Local 2002, and Jerry Dias, Unifor National President.

Jerry Dias addressed the GTAA management team and said: “the Bargaining Committee is committed to bargain responsibly and is ready to negotiate a new collective agreement that is progressive, fair, and equitable for all members”.   He further added,  “the GTAA is a healthy company that has seen increased earnings year over year, along with continued strong passenger growth and commercial revenues. Our GTAA members want to share in those benefits, as Toronto Pearson International Airport continues to evolve into one of the world’s leading Mega HUBS”.

Non-Monetary Proposals for the General and Skilled Trade Workers

Your Bargaining Committee and the Company have met on 8 occasions; from May 1st to 3, 2019, and on May 6 to 10, 2019.  During these meetings, bargaining focused primarily on non-monetary proposals for both the General and Skilled Trade workers.  Present at these negotiations was our Research Department from the Unifor National office, they were on hand to provide information on how to implement the technological language changes that the Committee has proposed for the new agreement.

As the negotiation process unfolds, we can report that both sides are making headway on the more difficult and sensitive issues. Resolving such issues requires considerable discussion and creativity as both sides find ways of reaching an agreement.  Negotiations with the GTAA continues to be positive and are progressing very well.

Negotiations will continue through the remaining month of May. Your Bargaining Committee plans to use these meetings to further advance non-monetary proposals and begin the discussions on the monetary items. As we continue discussions with the Employer, the Committee will continue to keep you updated.

Please note; in order to protect the integrity of the negotiations, the Committee is not able to discuss specific details with the membership while in collective bargaining, as this is common practice.

It’s the “U” and “I” in Union that makes us Stronger
