Hilton Saint John negotiations update

April 2, 2018 at 5:00 PM

Your Unifor Bargaining Committee officially opened talks with Hilton Saint John on March 19, 2018. The parties exchanged bargaining proposals and met for the duration of the week, as well as six additional days at the end of the month.

We are pleased with the progress we have made over the last two weeks. However, the Union determined late last week that there may be a technical issue with the language in the current collective agreement that may violate New Brunswick’s Employment Standards Act (ESA). As such Unifor and Hilton Saint John are not able to continue the bargaining process until there is an opportunity to address the concern with a third party. This also means that the remaining unresolved monetary items will remain on hold until we can determine that the current language does violate the Province’s Employment Standards Act.

Unifor has initiated a dialogue between the New Brunswick Labour Board and our legal counsel in an effort to resolve this matter swiftly. Until this matter is resolved, no additional bargaining dates have been scheduled between the union and company. The current collective agreement expired December 31, 2017.

We will continue to keep you informed of any updates as they are made available. Please ensure that you have subscribed to Unifor 2002's e-news service at unifor2002.org.
