Message from Jerry Dias: Unifor and this federal election

August 24, 2021 at 4:15 PM
A federal election has been called for September 20, 2021. Soon, Canadians will be casting their votes to elect the next federal government.

Our union has always been an advocate for working people. We defend the interest of our members at the bargaining table when you negotiate your collective agreement. We call for stronger workers' rights and public services in communities across Canada. We advocate on behalf of all workers with elected government officials at the provincial and federal levels, and make sure your voice carries all the way to the nation's capital.

That's why Unifor will be an active force during this federal election. Our lives as working people are directly impacted by the priorities of our governments. An election is one more way to make ourselves heard by those who make decisions about the future of this country.

When the election was called we demanded the next federal government build back better to:
  • Support care work and the care economy
  • Improve income security and affordability
  • Grow good, union jobs and pass anti-scab legislation
  • Advance reconciliation and racial justice
  • Foster fair trade and international solidarity
  • Tackle climate change and protecting jobs
  • Invest in the recovery economy
I know the pandemic has changed the lives of many of our members. I know that many of you are still facing the consequences of a worldwide pandemic that is still wreaking havoc today. This is why this election is so important.

Let's work together to elect a government that believes in the priorities of Unifor members. You may have already seen our television ad urging Canadians to not vote Conservative.

We encourage Unifor members to get informed, plan ahead and vote on September 20. Please check out our election website for more helpful information at www.uniforvotes.ca
