Air Georgian withdraws application for judicial review: Clearing the way for Bargaining

October 3, 2017 at 11:55 AM

On Friday, September 29, 2017, Unifor National Staff Representative Gary Ellis and Assistant to the Local President Theresa Amicarelli met with Air Georgian to discuss future bargaining and the status of judicial review at the Canadian Industrial Review Board (CIRB).

The Company advised the Union that they are no longer seeking to follow through on the judicial review. This now allows Unifor’s ability to schedule bargaining dates with Air Georgian later this week for opening rounds of negotiations to begin sometime in December.

Bargaining Process consists of the following:

  • Election of the Bargaining Committee
  • Surveys distributed to the membership and returned to the local
  • Tabulation of the surveys with the Bargaining Committee
  • Scheduling of proposal meetings for all members to attend and vote on the proposals
  • Bargaining Committee will meet to formulate all proposals to be put forth to the company at the Bargaining table.

As the bargaining process unfolds, the Bargaining Committee will keep the membership informed through bulletins and emails as information becomes available. However, it is important to note: to protect the integrity of the negotiating process, the committee cannot discuss specific details with the membership while in negotiations with the company.  The bargaining process may take several months before a tentative agreement.

If a tentative agreement is reached, members will be advised of the scheduled ratification meetings so that they may understand and vote on the terms of the agreement.  We will continue to communicate clear, concise information to you via e-news and our local’s website.
