Swissport Vancouver Members Vote in favour of Strike Action

Swissport Vancouver Members Vote in favour of Strike Action

July 27, 2022 at 8:00 AM

Following the in-person strike vote meetings held on July 26, 2022, members at Swissport Vancouver have voted 100 percent in favour of strike action.

The main issues affecting members are wages, scheduling and benefits. With the rising costs of housing, groceries, gas, and essentials, it’s becoming more unaffordable for our members to make a decent living. The Employer can and must do better.

WHAT DOES A STRIKE VOTE MEAN?

  • A strong strike vote gives the Bargaining Committee leverage they need to undertake strike action if necessary. This is also known as a mandate. It is a tool we need right now to help us get a fair and equitable settlement. It shows the employer that your priorities have not changed and that you stand behind the proposals we have tabled in this round of bargaining.

  • Please also note that a strike vote does not mean we will go on strike. It means authority is given to the Bargaining Committee to establish a strike date should further negotiations fail to provide meaningful gains to our members.

  • The Bargaining Committee has heard your message loud and clear and we intend to take it back to the negotiation table. We will be meeting with the Employer and conciliator on July 27 and 28. We remain hopeful that with your mandate and the assistance of the conciliator, this will provide the momentum to reach a collective agreement that is worth presenting to the members of Swissport Vancouver. The Conciliation process will end on August 9, 2022.

The Bargaining Committee would like to thank the membership for their unwavering support throughout these negotiations. Please ensure you are subscribed to e-news.
