Air Canada: Bargaining Update

March 26, 2011 at 4:00 PM

As communicated to the membership in previous bulletins, your Air Canada Bargaining Committee filed a Notice of Dispute on March 11th 2011 to begin the Conciliation process under the Canada Labour Code.

On March 24th 2011, we were formally advised that Carol A. Wall has been officially appointed as the Conciliator for CAW Local 2002 bargaining with Air Canada. Ms. Wall will be meeting with both parties in April.

Under the conciliation process, the timelines outlined in the Canada Labour Code take effect upon the appointment of the Conciliator. This process begins with sixty (60) days of conciliation followed by twenty (20) days of mediation.

Because progress has been slow to date with bargaining, the CAW Local 2002 welcomes the assistance of the Conciliator to facilitate further negotiation talks.

With a federal election now called, Assistant to the CAW National President Peggy Nash, who had been assigned to the Air Canada Bargaining Committee, will be running as an NDP Candidate in the Parkdale- High Park Riding. As a result, Ms. Nash will now be replaced in Air Canada bargaining with Assistant to the CAW National President, Bob Chernecki. Within the CAW, Bob is the most experienced Officer who has negotiated collective agreements in every major sector of the CAW including Auto, Rail, Health Care and the Airline Industry.

We thank you for your continued support as your bargaining committee enters into the conciliation process to bargain a collective agreement that will benefit all members.

Your support equals our success!

In Solidarity,

Your Air Canada Bargaining Committee,
