Unifor opens talks with Air Canada

September 21, 2018 at 4:30 PM

Bargaining for a new collective agreement has begun between Unifor Local 2002 and Air Canada. Local 2002 represents 4,800 Air Canada Customer Sales and Service Agents from coast to coast to coast.

"Unifor members at Air Canada do outstanding work to help travelers reach their destinations," said Jerry Dias, Unifor National President, who was present at the talks. “We are eager to get started on a fair contract that shares Air Canada’s significant gains with front-line workers."

Air Canada’s employees helped the company win Best Airline in North America in seven of the last eight years. Company profits are at record highs.

This week’s talks are somewhat unusual as the five-year contract is not set to expire until February, 2020.

"The Unifor Local Bargaining team has a clear mandate from the membership," said Euila Leonard, President of Unifor Local 2002. "We are committed to ensuring that we get the best possible collective agreement for our members. This new agreement needs to properly reflect our member's contributions to the success and the profitability of Air Canada."

Unifor and Air Canada will reconvene in Toronto on October 2,3, and 4 to resume talks.
