CAW comments on First Air accident in Nunavut

Transport Canada has stated that twelve people are believed dead after an accident earlier today involving a First Air Boeing 737 aircraft in Nunavut. The statement also indicated that three people were injured in the accident, however, their conditions are not known at this time.

According to the statement, First Air flight #6560 traveling from Yellowknife to Resolute Bay crashed on approach to Resolute Bay.

"We are saddened and distraught hearing news of this tragic accident,” said CAW President Jamie Ross. "Our condolences and prayers go out to the family, friends and co-workers of those involved in today’s accident.”

First Air is the leading airline in Canada’s Arctic, providing scheduled service between 30 northern communities and connections to Ottawa, Montreal, Winnipeg and Edmonton.

CAW members at First Air are employed as Customer Service Agents at airports, reservations and cargo. They perform functions in the Western and Eastern Artic, and also in Ottawa, Winnipeg and Edmonton.
