CAW Application for Membership Cards

CAW Application for Membership Cards

August 15, 2008 at 12:00 AM

A number of our members have approached the CAW regarding their eligibility to vote in the upcoming elections without having signed a CAW Membership Card.

As you recall on May 2, 2008 the Canadian Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) issued an interim certificate to the CAW thereby recognizing the CAW as the bargaining unit for those former PSAC members of Local 004 and Local 005. As a result, the Local, along with the National Office, has determined that all former PSAC members employed by the GTAA as of May 2, 2008 are not required to sign a CAW "Application for Membership" card. In order to remain consistent, the above process is also applicable to those newly included members / positions into the bargaining unit.

Alternatively, those employees hired by the GTAA after May 2, 2008 and who are covered under the scope of either the CAW Local 2002, Local 004, or Local 005 collective agreements will be required to sign a CAW Application for Membership card prior to voting in any election. The application for membership cards will be available at all polling stations.

Should you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact myself or Rita Reid, Vice President - Central Region at 905-678-1551.
