On May 1st, 2008, the CAW, PSAC and GTAA met with the Canada Industrial
Relations Board for a case management hearing regarding the transfer of
bargaining rights from PSAC to the CAW. The CIRB announced that it would
immediately issue an interim certificate in the name of CAW.
The CAW now has legal authority to represent workers in all three bargaining
units: CAW Local 2002 and PSAC Local’s 4 and 5 and is responsible for
administering the three existing collective agreements. All current agreements
will continue to be in effect until a new collective agreement is negotiated.
The first order of business is to elect additional members to the Bargaining
Committee as well as additional Vice Chairpersons. Writs of election will be
posted in the workplaces next week. We encourage new CAW members to become
involved in your union and to be a part of a strong team. If you have any
questions or concerns please contact Jeff Hatt, CAW Chairperson, District 333 at
416-776-5167 or [email protected].
The CAW met with the GTAA on April 29th and 30th to continue their
discussions regarding the description of the Bargaining Unit and the
consolidation of all three collective agreements into one. Future dates between
the parties have been scheduled between May 6th and May 14th.
We anticipate a smooth transition and will continue to keep you informed.
