CAW Seeks Interim Certification Order at GTAA

CAW Seeks Interim Certification Order at GTAA

April 25, 2008 at 12:00 AM

Earlier this month the CAW applied to the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) for an interim certification order in the name of CAW-Canada. Concurrently, PSAC also wrote the CIRB to advise they to were in complete agreement with the CAW’s request and submission made in support to identify CAW–Canada as the certified bargaining agent in order to permit the CAW to undertake the task of representing employees of the GTAA. The CAW requires a certificate in order that we can fully represent all employees from CAW Local 2002 and PSAC Local’s 4 and 5. Until the CAW is issued a certificate, the CAW is not the legal bargaining agent and can not take carriage of those outstanding grievances. Although the CAW and PSAC are in full agreement unfortunately the GTAA is not. The GTAA has opposed the application of both CAW and PSAC for an interim certification order.

The CAW and GTAA are scheduled to meet on April 29th and 30th in order to continue dialogue relative to the description of the Bargaining Unit and subsequently the consolidation of all three collective agreements into one.

We will continue to keep you informed as the issue unfolds.
