On May 23 a meeting was held at the CAW Local 2002 Toronto
office regarding the GTAA’s application to consolidate bargaining units at
Pearson. In attendance were representative from your Bargaining Committee
along with representatives from the Local and National Offices. The CAW’s
National Legal Department is involved in all matters before the Canadian
Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) with respect to the application. It is not
uncommon for the process at the CIRB to take some time and when there are
developments CAW members will be informed.
As you are aware the GTAA has made presentations to the
CIRB regarding the consolidation of the bargaining units. It is the CAW’s
position that when there is a sale of business and members of different unions
are combined into one new unit there should be a vote of the affected parties so
they can select the union of their choice.
The CAW will continue to be proactive during the CIRB’s
process of reflection and will do everything possible to ensure that both CAW
and PSAC members have the opportunity to vote on the union of their choice.
We will continue to hold meetings with the following
representatives, in order that we remain proactive in our approach as the CIRB
process evolves. Regular communications will be bulletined to ensure our
members remain up-to-date.
In attendance at the May 23 meeting were the following CAW
