GTAA Bargaining Update: Mediator facilitates positive discussions

GTAA Bargaining Update: Mediator facilitates positive discussions

July 6, 2009 at 8:30 PM

The Bargaining Committee, Employer along with Labour Mediator Tom Hodges reconvened in Toronto on June 29th. During the four days of discussions, the group was faced with multifaceted task of consolidating all three collective agreements into a single document that will cover all members and benefit all.

With the assistance of Mediator Hodges, the parties made considerable progress. Most of the non monetary issues have already been agreed to; however, the CAW is continuing to press the Employer on monetary gains.

During the next few days, Mediator Hodges will begin the process of writing recommendations for the GTAA and CAW. The parties are expected to meet again on Friday, July 10 to review these recommendations.

As of today, there are no further dates scheduled to meet with the company after July 10th. The parties are, however, scheduled to meet at the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) the week of August 10th.

We will continue to keep you updated of the collective bargaining process as it unfolds.
