Your GTAA Bargaining Committee gathered this past
week to complete two important tasks: benefits review and finalization of
proposals.
The CAW benefits expert Cara MacDonald, outlined
the differences of the various benefit packages currently within the membership.
In order to give the committee direction going forward, positives and negatives
of all plans were reviewed.
The union’s proposal package was scrutinized and
the finishing touches applied. On March 25 both parties will present their
respective proposals. It should be noted that no decisions will be made at this
meeting; the purpose is to simply exchange proposals.
Several dates have been set aside during the month
of April for the bargaining committee to review the employer’s proposal in
detail. Negotiations will commence on April 29. Further dates will be announced
when finalized.
Our commitment to you is to be as transparent as
possible throughout the bargaining process, without jeopardizing the integrity
of our negotiations. We will continue to deliver clear, concise information to
you via e-news and our local’s website.'
Get the facts, just the facts!
Information is powerful.
But the wrong information can be dangerous. During
bargaining rumours are like grass fires; they start easily and spread fast. It’s
easy to be distracted and divided by the smoke (and mirrors). As a collective
and cohesive bargaining unit, we need to stay focused on the issues.
If you hear a rumour about bargaining, don’t spread
the fire, put it out! Consider the source of the spark. Check with a bargaining
committee person to get the facts, just the facts.
