GTAA: Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) rules Sale of Business Occurred

October 19, 2007 at 12:00 AM

The CIRB ruled today that the amalgamation of Terminals 1 and 3 at Pearson Airport under the management of the Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) has resulted in a sale or transfer of business under the provisions of the Canada Labour Code.

The CIRB also ordered that the affected bargaining agents (PSAC and the CAW) will be given until December 21, 2007 to discuss the structure of the bargaining units and come to a voluntary agreement by that date. If a voluntary agreement is not reached by that date then a meeting will be held on December 21 at the CIRB to determine if hearings are necessary to finalize the matter.

“We are pleased the CIRB agreed with the CAW that there has indeed been a sale of business between TBI and the GTAA. This is a necessary first step to conclude the matter in a satisfactory way,” said Leslie Dias – President of the CAW’s Airline Division.

Subsequent bulletins will be posted as more information is available.
