National president commits resources of
entire union to successful outcome
During a speech to the leadership of the CAW’s
airline division in Niagara Falls, CAW National President Buzz Hargrove
committed the total resources of the CAW to bring representational issues at the
GTAA to a successful conclusion.
The CAW has argued at the Canadian Industrial
Relations Board (CIRB) that the transfer of operations at T3 from TBI to the
GTAA amounts to a ‘sale of business’ under the Canada Labour Code. It is the
CAW’s position that because it is a ‘sale of business’ workers at the GTAA
should have the right to vote for the union that will best represent their
interests into the future.
After his speech to the airline division’s
leadership Mr. Hargrove met with the GTAA Bargaining Committee and other CAW
officers who are working to bring the CIRB process to a successful conclusion.
In attendance at the meeting were Jeff Hatt, GTAA District Chairperson; Fred
Romolo and Sundin Tjong, GTAA Bargaining Committee; Leslie Dias, Local 2002
President; Munir Khalid, Regional Director – CAW National Office; Tom Collins, Assistant
to the National President; Carlo Levore, National Representative and Ashley
Watkins, Executive Assistant – East, Local 2002.
Mr. Hargrove reassured the Bargaining Committee
that the GTAA representational issues are a priority of the National Union and
he will do everything possible to bring the matter to a positive outcome.
